Character Curriculum

At Killisick Junior School, we recognize that character development is fundamental to preparing our pupils for future success and responsible citizenship. Character encompasses the personal qualities and values that guide individuals to make ethical decisions, build resilience, and contribute positively to society. By fostering strong character traits, we empower our young people to navigate life's challenges with confidence and integrity.

Our bespoke Character Curriculum is thoughtfully designed to integrate various essential components, creating a holistic approach to personal development:

  • Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) Education: We deliver a comprehensive PSHE curriculum that educates pupils about positive relationships, respect for others, and the promotion of good mental health and well-being.

  • Well-being and Nurture Pathways: Understanding that some children require additional support, we have established three distinct pathways to address varying needs:

    • Pathway 1: Universal support available to all pupils.

    • Pathway 2: Targeted support for children with emerging needs.

    • Pathway 3: Enhanced, bespoke support involving a multi-agency approach for significant needs.

These pathways ensure that every child receives the appropriate care and guidance to thrive academically and personally.

  • Behaviour Curriculum (including Zones of Regulation): We emphasize the importance of good behaviour and provide high-quality pastoral care, teaching students the values of being ready, respectful, and responsible. This approach fosters resilience and character development among pupils.

Our Character Curriculum is enveloped in our school's core values: respect, confidence, pride, enjoyment, aspiration, creativity, responsibility, and perseverance. These values permeate all aspects of school life, guiding pupils to develop a strong moral compass and a commitment to personal excellence.

By intertwining these elements, our Character Curriculum not only supports academic achievement but also cultivates well-rounded individuals who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to their communities and lead fulfilling lives.
