Children's Leadership

At Killisick Junior School, we are dedicated to nurturing leadership qualities in our pupils, providing them with diverse opportunities to develop responsibility, confidence, and a sense of community. Our comprehensive leadership programme allows students to engage in various roles that contribute positively to school life and their personal growth.

Leadership Roles Available:

  • Behaviour Buddy: Serve as a role model by promoting positive behaviour, assisting peers in making good choices, and collaborating with teachers to maintain a supportive and safe environment.

  • Assembly Set Up Squad: Work as part of a team to prepare the hall for assemblies, ensuring the space is organized and welcoming for the school community.

  • Attendance Champion: Encourage regular and punctual attendance among peers, monitor attendance data, celebrate achievements, and support those facing challenges.

  • Digital Leader: Utilize technological skills to assist teachers and classmates, troubleshoot issues, teach new digital competencies, and promote the effective integration of technology in learning.

  • Sports Leader: Organize and lead physical activities and tournaments during playtimes, coach younger students, and inspire healthy, active lifestyles through exemplary sportsmanship.

  • Leader of Learning: Exemplify dedication and curiosity in learning, provide feedback on lesson planning and delivery, and encourage peers to engage passionately with their studies.

  • Wellbeing Warrior: Promote mental health and emotional well-being by organizing activities focused on self-care and mindfulness, offering peer support, and collaborating with staff to foster a caring school environment.

  • School Parliament Representative: Act as the voice of classmates in school decision-making processes, demonstrating strong communication and collaboration skills, attending regular meetings, and advocating for positive changes within the school community.

These roles are designed to empower pupils, allowing them to take ownership of their school experience and contribute meaningfully to our community. Our recent Ofsted report highlights that "pupils are proud to take on leadership opportunities," noting their enthusiasm for positions such as sports leaders, well-being warriors, digital leaders, and school parliament members.

By participating in these leadership roles, pupils at Killisick Junior School develop essential life skills, preparing them for future challenges and fostering a lifelong commitment to active, responsible citizenship.
